Forty-Plus ~ The Truth Serum Decade

Friday ~ 2006-10-27

Youngest Son offered to go grocery shopping with me this afternoon. I should have known better. Besides spending way too much money on this, that, and the other thing, we had no sooner got to the main store when he said, "Mom, we need to go home." "Why?" I asked. "I have to drop the kids in the pool." Oh brother, the kid poops more than three people put together and he refuses to do it at school. You know, public bathrooms and all.

Being the mean mother I am, we finished all our shopping. Of course we were walking fast but mostly because that sweet child of mine was dropping little bombs throughout the aisle. Hey, Kathy, that's one way to clear the aisles!

Oldest Son has decided to commute to college. He spends every weekend here with us picking him up in the early afternoon on Fridays and me driving him back on Monday mornings. There's been a couple of times he's come home in the middle of the week. He doesn't sleep or study well in the dorm, it's very loud until all hours and he's just not used to it.

I think he's a little immature too. Not in a bad way but I just don't think he's ready to be "on his own." He didn't feel the need to get his license until 18 even though he had his permit since 16. Sometimes I am surprised by his thoughts and actions. He is very intelligent and yet ... well, he just needs to grow up, but in his own time.

In the long run it will save us all money. Even with gas and wear and tear on his car the cost of room and board is almost more than the education.

Hopefully this will be a good move for everyone.

The forecasters of gloom and doom, otherwise known as the weather reporters, are predicting the storm of the century tomorrow. Not quite, but almost. Wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour and up to two inches of rain. I sure hope we will be doing our volunteer training in the barn and indoor ring. Maybe I should wear my speedo with the muck boots! Wow, that's a visual. Sorry.
